I have been slow to write anything.  I attribute this to three things 1) how tired I am, 2) lack of concentration and 3) technological problems. I am extremely tired, I think due to the amount of thinking even small and mundane things take due to the language differences. Also, as I have no car, the amount of walking I have been doing is quite high. I believe these will both go away soon, as I am getting in shape (yea!!) and  I will be enrolling in Slovak language courses next week.  I think they are after school for Caden, so he will accompany me to the classes.  My concentration problems are due to being overtired and due to caffeine withdrawal.  The standard coffee here is instant and it's really really bad.  I had to break down and ask my friend from home to send me a coffee pot and some coffee.  I am hoping DHL rushes it, and that should overcome the concentration problems!  Lastly, my computer has decided to make neon green lines on every white space on the computer.  This makes it very hard to write, as I get seasick typing :). That also effects the concentration levels.  Imagine reading with green neon lines and without coffee!

Anyway, we have settled into our apartment.  It is a one bedroom (spálňa) and a open kitchen, dining and living area.  It's quite small by USA standards, but comfortable.  It's modern, and everything was provided: blankets, towels, kitchen utilities etc. The consider it a two-room flat (2 izbový byt). The flat is one of the better ones in town- in fact, it is the only one that is gated.  While it is not in the Centrum of town, it is close enough to walk (without getting winded) and near a shopping mall (Centro) and the botanical gardens. In fact, we have a key to a gate that puts us directly in the gardens.  The bus stop is two blocks.  We live on several bus lines, and all go to the center of town (Centrum), but bus #2 is what Caden takes to school.  I take him in the morning and pick him up at 2pm.    When I start teaching, my office and classrooms are directly next to his school.

Academically, I have learned only that the department I ail be teaching is within the college of arts.  The department, Mass Media Communication & Advertising has a specific focus on the marketing aspects of communication, but all typical "business courses" (i.e.: marketing etc) are taught within the department. UKF does not have a business school or program. I am keen to find out more about this model.  I will share more information on academics in the next  post.

How exciting. A new world altogether, bad coffee, huh. We get used to having such a huge selection over here. I am really interested in your reporting, I will be getting a very good lesson learning about Europe, Thanks. Have fun.

The picture from inside your flat looks like something from an Ikea catalog...

And the friend who sent you the coffee messed it up. Thought everything was covered but nooo. Hope its cleared soon, for the sake of the caffeine withdraw. Live and learn. Great to skipe a little bit today but the 7 hour difference will be a small henderance. Take care.
